Betty Jo Culpepper

Betty Jo Culpepper, 71, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015, in Ennis, Texas.

Betty was born on June 9, 1944, to W. J. and Emilie (Skrivanek) Vrla. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1962. On January 20, 1968, she married Gene Culpepper and they made their home in Ennis.

Betty worked as a secretary for Sears for eighteen years and for the Church of Christ for eighteen years until her retirement in 2007.

She was a member of the Church of Christ on Country Club Road and the Rebekah Lodge #104. She loved her family and put them first. She enjoyed ceramics and needle work.

She will be remembered as a loving caring person and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished most by her family including her husband of forty-seven years, Gene Culpepper; her sons, John B. Culpepper and Garry Gene Culpepper; sister, Rose Ann McClung, brother-in-law, Billy McElroy and multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Willie Mae Mraz and Emily McElroy.

A Celebration of her life took place on Monday, November 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Brent Isbell officiating. Pallbearers were Robbie Flynt, Robert Flynt, Eric Culpepper, Kevin Culpepper, Chris McClung and Greg McElroy. Interment followed in Crisp Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donation be made to the Lakes Regional MHMR of Ennis in Betty’s name.
