Marvin R. Hanks, Sr.

Marvin R. Hanks, Sr., 87, left his earthly home in Ennis, Texas, on Saturday, November 7, 2015, for his new home in Heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ.

Marvin was born in Corbet, Texas, on February 3, 1928, to Mandred L. and Ethel (Christie) Hanks. He grew up in Corbet and attended school at Corsicana High School. On June 25, 1949, he married Geneva “Flo” Wetzel and they made their home in Corsicana, Texas; later to Washington state, Moses Lake Air Force Base and then Wilmer, Texas, for thirty-four years. They moved from Wilmer to Ennis in 1991. Marvin served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. After his service in the Navy he then served in the Texas National Guard and the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He was the owner of Hanks Barber Shop in Wilmer, Texas, for sixteen years and then worked for the Texas Highway Department for thirteen years as an Inspector. He served as a Baptist Music Director for many years. He and Flo were members of the Anthony Drive Baptist Church of Ennis, the I.O.O.F. and the VFW. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching horse racing, playing croquet and nickels, dimes and quarters. The grandchildren will always remember him playing CLR with them.

He will be remembered as a husband, father, friend, and most of all, as a Christian man. He will be missed greatly by all those fortunate enough to know him and his memory will be cherished most by his family including his wife of over sixty-six years, Flo Hanks; son, Marvin R. Hanks, Jr. and wife, Sherry; daughters: Deborah Bowen and husband, Johnny and Kim Edleston and husband, Earl; grandchildren: Jeff Edleston and wife, Melanie, Marianne Bowen, Melody Ann Hanks, Tommy L. Silvers and wife, Hilary, Louis Flory, III, Marvin R. “Hank” Hanks. III and wife, Brittany, Kristina Kempton and husband, Paul, Brandi Bowen, Susan Stevens and husband, Shannon, Stephanie McQueeney and husband, Peter, Joseph F. Hetmer and wife, Krystal; fifteen great-grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, three sisters, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Hetmer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

A Celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rev. Jerry Fulton officiating. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Patterson Cemetery of Emhouse, Texas under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
