Duane Shaw

Duane Shaw, 70, went home to sing for her Lord and Savior in the Heavenly Choir on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Duane was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 9, 1944, to William Choyse and Dorothy E. (Hefley) Hall. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School in 1962. On Nov. 23, 1962, she married the love of her life, Morris Shaw, and they made their home in Ennis, where they remain.

She worked for the City of Ennis in the Water and Inspectors office, for Ferguson Electric as bookkeeper and secretary, and was an Esthetician helping those that came to see her with the special treatment that only Duane could provide because of the love she had for all. She was a member of the Baylor Baptist Church of Ennis. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and using her beautiful voice in song. She loved being with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her memory will be carried on by those who loved her, especially her husband of over fifty-two years, Morris Shaw; son, Scott Shaw and wife Melinda; grandchildren: Ashley Cade and husband Aaron, and Joseph Shaw; great-grandchildren: Lainey and Will Cade; one brother, Luther Hall; and a host of family and friends.

She goes home to join her parents; her step-father, Ray McCrary; one brother, Choyse Hall; and one sister, Marie Schuler.

Visitation is on Monday, March 9, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, March 10, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Johnnie Mansell and Rev. Chet Hensley officiating. Pallbearers will be Vance Vyers, Lonnie Moser, James Fersugson, Danny Eckeberger, John Mark Eckeberger and Lynn Eckeberger. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Larry D. Jones

Larry D. Jones, age 68, died on March 7, 2015. He was born on Nov. 7, 1946, to T. Weldon and Mabel Parker Jones in Ennis, Texas. He was an Ennis native and fourth generation Ellis countian.

Larry started his working career in the printing business with Ennis Business Forms and worked for several major printing companies in the Dallas area. He worked almost twenty years at Data Document, Inc., from where he retired as Production Manager. In 1990 he started his own business as the owner of Larry Jones Farm Equipment. He operated his farm implement supply equipment business until he was elected Ellis County Commissioner, PCT 2 on Jan. 1, 2003. He retired after serving one term in office on Dec. 31, 2006.

Larry married Patsy Griffin on Jan. 1, 1965. He was a member of the Bardwell Church of Christ, IOOF Lodge 227, American Legion Post 361, and Ellis County Farm Bureau. He served as one of the board of directors for Ellis County Rural Rail Transportation District.

He was an avid bass fisherman and gave a lot of filleted fish away. He joked with his friends that he was a born again fisherman. He enjoyed people and being around them and took great pride in knowing the community and the people in it.

Larry is survived by his wife, Patsy Jones; two sons, Barry Jones and wife Deneen, and Brian Jones and wife Tina; grandchildren: Zachary Jones, Faith Jones, Morgan Marshall, Weldon Jones, and Nathan Jones; and one great-grandchild, Mia Jones.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers are Lane Grayson, David Stiff, Brock Stanford, Glynn Spaniel, Sonny Davis, and Jim Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Farmer, Earl Stanford, Bill Kinzie, John Welch, Bobby Joe Curry, and Bryan Atwood. Interment will follow at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.

Frank William Lacik, Jr.

Frank William Lacik, Jr., age 90, passed away in Dallas on March 8, 2015. He was born on Nov. 30, 1924, in Ennis, TX to Frank, Sr. and Mary (Patak) Lacik. Frank Jr. was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church of Lancaster, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Dickens. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US Post 581 in Houston, TX, and the American Legion Post 361 in Ennis, TX.

He is survived by five sisters Hattie Brown, Mary Brown, Evelyn Barnes, Jo Ann Majka and Janie Salazar; two brothers Wayne and Johnny Lacik; one niece Janice Hunt; five nephews James, Paul, Robert, and Tom Brown and James Smith. Frank Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Helen Smith and two nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1537 Rogers Avenue in Lancaster, TX. Interment will be held at a later date at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Aubry Lee “Al” Lewis

Aubry Lee “Al” Lewis, 77, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on March 9, 2015.
Al was born in Crisp, Texas, on Sept. 22, 1937, to James O. and Josephine Lee (Wright) Lewis. He grew up in Crisp and Ennis and attended Ennis High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy as a Com Eight. On Oct. 1, 1980, he married Connie Berry and they made their home in Italy, Texas.

He worked for Western Union for over twenty years in sales. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed working in the yard doing landscaping and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Connie L. Lewis; son, Rodney D. Lewis and wife, Kristi; daughters: Deanna Holt, Barbara Lewis, Nina Montoya and Suzanna Moore and husband Dennis; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mary Patterson and husband Kenneth, and Betty Bowden and husband Son.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James A. Lewis and Thomas M. Lewis and two sisters, Mattie Beth Burris and Sybil Ruth Higginbotham.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. prior to services. A Celebration of his life will take place on Friday, March 13, at 11 a.m. in the Faith Assembly of God Church of Ennis with Rev. Darrell Nelson officiating.

Billie Ann Baldwin

Billie Ann Baldwin, long-time Ennis resident, died March 12, 2015, in Waxahachie, Texas. She was 82.

Services will be held at J.E. Keever Mortuary, in Ennis, at 11:00 a.m. Monday.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

“Ann” Baldwin was born to William L. & Linnie Mae (Turley) Clinton in Commerce, Texas, on Feb. 3, 1933. Billie Ann was raised in Commerce but did not consider herself a country girl. Rather a girl raised on concrete and decided to stay on it if possible. While a youngster she walked everywhere she went due to humble beginnings. She said when she got her driving license she was through walking. She was a 1951 graduate of Commerce High School.

On Aug. 4, 1951, she married her husband, Billy Ray Baldwin, and was married 52 years. She enjoyed gospel, country and bluegrass music, brick by brick puzzles, soap operas, Texas Ranger baseball, and was a member of the Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club and Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis. She was a fine seamstress and worked for Storey Manufacturing from 1970 to 1980.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donnie L.Clinton; sister, Doris Jewell Marshall; and her husband, Billy Ray on April 24, 2004.

She is survived by brother, Bobby Clinton of DeKalb; and by two daughters, Debra Cooke and Ronnie Childress of Eureka, and Donna Boggan and huband Dusty, of Ennis; four grandchildren: Bryan Lotspeich, Alan Lotspeich and wife Kali, Craig Boggan and wife Taffy, and Mary Boggan; 3 great-grand children, Benjamin Lotspeich, Ralin Williams, and Landry Boggan. Numerous in-Laws, nieces, nephews,and friends. She was a fine, loving, person who will be missed.

Jewell Alice (Miller) Stephens

Jewell Alice (Miller) Stephens passed away March 14, 2015, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
She was born June 29, 1923, in Sumrall, Mississippi. Jewell married Herbert F. Stephens on June 15, 1949, and they made their home in Alma, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Glenda Lee, grandsons Ted and Matthew Laudon.
She is survived by three sons: Rickey and Rebecca Stephens, Franklin and Cindy Stephens, and Mark Stephens. Two daughters: Judy and Charles Bishop, Kathy and Doug Watson. Grandchildren: Cas Laudon, Andrew Ludwig, Brent Bishop, Sara and Justin Stephens, Eli and Seth Stephens, Sam and Joel Watson; 13 great-grandchildren; family friend and caregiver Juan Martagon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Pat Land, 71, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
Pat was born in Durant, Okla., on February 8, 1944, to Marshall and Mary (Manning) Ellis. She grew up in Oklahoma and Lubbock, Texas. She attended Lubbock High School. On May 26, 1993, she married James W. Land and they made their home in Palmer.
She worked for Wal Mart over eight years in Accounting. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, and painting.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Land; sons: Jerry Brumfield, Leslie Brumfield and wife, Torey, Charley Brown and wife, Michelle and Danny Land and wife, Raquel; daughters: Carla Brown and Roxanne Spence; thirteen grandchildren: five great-grandchildren: brothers: Vernon Ellis, Charley Ellis and Gary Ellis and sisters: Allie North, Betty Johnson and Jessie Wright.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 17, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Palmer. A Celebration of her life took place on Wednesday, March 18, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ray Rainey officiating in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Palmer Chapel. Pallbearers were David Land, Jerry Land, Zachary Kuhn, Scott Bird, Lanny Houchin, Clint Cooper and Perry Graff. Interment followed in Palmer Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Lee Roy Robinson

Lee Roy Robinson, 86, of Corsicana, went to his heavenly home to join his wife Sue on her birthday, March 16, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1928, in Corsicana to Lee Roy and Mary Helen Robinson, Sr. He began working early as a young man to help support his family, earning the nickname “Speedy” as he drove routes for Barq’s Bottling Company, Deluxe Bread, and Holsum Bread, He also served his country as an airplane mechanic in the Army during WWII.

Lee Roy married the love of his life, Sue Cockrell, on July 9, 1949. They started their family in Dallas where Lee Roy worked for Washington National Insurance Company, eventually transferring back to Corsicana. Following his retirement from the insurance company, he worked with a dear friend at Mac’s Car Lot and then at Master Vend for many years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Corsicana and loved hunting, playing 42, spending time with his family, and drinking coffee in the morning with his buddies at Brookshires.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Robinson, his parents, and his brother, James Robinson. He is survived by his daughters, Patti Ludwig and husband Bill of Ennis and Karen Cook and husband Lance of Corsicana; grandsons, Andy Ludwig and wife Heather of Waxahachie, Landon Cook of Fort Worth, Logan Cook of Corsicana, and Lawton Cook of Corsicana; sisters, Glenna Stoecker of Pasadena and Sue Simmons and husband Garth of Ennis; numerous nieces, nephews, and a big host of friends.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cory Brand officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Ludwig, Landon Cook, Logan Cook, Lawton Cook, Gary Brown, and Bill Pumphrey. Memorial contributions may be made to either First Baptist Church, 510 W. Randall Lee Wylie, Sr.

Randall Lee Wylie, Sr., 75 of Ennis, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Ennis, Texas, on March 17, 1939, to J.M. Wylie and Emma B. Davis Wylie.
Randall graduated from Ennis High School in 1957 where he was a star football player and attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship. He served in the U.S. Army and then spent the majority of his professional career as an executive with Lone Star Steel Company in Dallas, Texas. He married Jane Guyler on Aug. 13, 1960, and they had two children. On May 27, 2000, he married Marylyn Tysdal. After retirement he resumed working for Cinco Pipe and Supply in Houston, Texas. He was a member of the Corsicana Country Club where he enjoyed his favorite hobby, playing golf multiple times a week. He adored his grandchildren and watching their sporting events. He also loved watching old Western’s and James Bond movies.

Survivors include his wife Marylyn Wylie of Ennis, Texas; Brother Charles Wylie and wife Imogene of Flower Mound, Texas; Son Randall L. Wylie, Jr and wife Michelle of Keller, Texas; Daughter Priscilla Brown and husband David of Dallas, Texas; Stepson Ed Tysdal and wife Carol of Ault, Colo.; Stepdaughter Kelli Stadlman and husband Allen of LaPorte, Colo.; Stepdaughter Kalene Sakurada and husband Randy of Fort Collins, Colo.; Grandchildren Ashley Wylie, Hillary Wylie, Amanda Brown, Alicia Brown, Kay Hansen, Nick Snider, James Tysdal, Jon Sakurada, Joe Tysdal, Justin Snider, and Kevin Lucero; Four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents J.M. and Emma B. Wylie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at J.E Keever Mortuary Chapel located at 408 North Dallas Street, Ennis, Texas. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, at Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church located at 401 East Lampasas, Ennis, Texas. with Father Fred Caldwell as celebrant under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Pallbearers will be Randall Wylie, Jr., David Brown, Allan Stadlman, Randy Sakurada, Ed Tysdal, Jon Sakurada and Justin Stadleman. Honary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Spellman, Charles Wylie, Frank Willet, Bernie Martinek, Max Worley, Roger Neely and Kevin Lucero.

Edwin “Dan” Anthony

Edwin “Dan” Anthony, 84, left this life on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from Dallas, Texas to begin his new life in Heaven with his Heavenly Father.

Dan was born in Byrd, Texas on July 28, 1930, to Vilas Lee and Leona (Johnson) Anthony. He grew up in Byrd and Peeltown. He graduated from Ennis High School in 1948. On Sept. 26, 1952, he married the love of his life Margaret Slagle and they made their home in Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army after World War II.

He worked for the United States Post office for over thirty-two years, following the death of his father, he managed the family’s two farms. He was a charter member of Anthony Drive Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon as well as Chairman of the Deacons for many years. He was a member of the Letter Carriers Union and had been a Past Steward. He enjoyed baseball and football especially when the kids would come over on Sunday afternoon to watch with him. He loved collecting stamps and coins and was a natural storyteller and enjoyed sharing his stories with others. Above all he was a Christian who loved his Savior and was grateful to the Lord for all his many blessings.

His memory will be carried on by all who knew and loved him especially his wife of over sixty-two years, Margaret Anthony; sons: Joe Anthony, James Anthony and wife, Penny and Billy Anthony; daughters: Debbie Smith and husband, Terry and Patricia Wallace and husband, Ben; grandchildren: T.J. Smith, Teresa Smith, Austin Anthony, Wesley Anthony, Andrea Anthony, Marshall Wallace, Charles Wallace, Alyssa Wallace; brother, Irvan Anthony and wife, Ruth; sister, Bess Johnson along with a multitude of other family and friends.

He goes home to meet his parents, son, Edwin Lee Anthony, brothers, Rupert Anthony, Everett Anthony and Oran Anthony.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 20, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Anthony Drive Baptist Church of Ennis with Rev. Jerry Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Elm Branch Cemetery of Bardwell under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Louise Jurik

Louise Jurik, 98, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on March 18, 2015.

Louise was born on Nov. 21, 1916, to Peter P. and Anna Mildred (Juroska) Fridel in Lovelady, Texas. She grew up in Lovelady and attended school in Telico, Texas. On Nov. 28, 1934, she married Emil W. Jurik and they made their home in Ennis.

Louise worked in the St. John Catholic School cafeteria for many years bestowing her talent with food to the children she served. She was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and KJZT #16. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. Her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by daughters: Ann Marek and husband, John, Sr., Unett Svrcek and husband, Cy and Karon Beebe; six grandchildren: eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil Jurik on April 4, 1997, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of the Christian burial will be on Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Father John Dick as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Jean Beebe, Kevin Marek, John Marek, Jr., Ed Mikuda, Matt Mikuda and Jon David Marek. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery of Ennis under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Sallie Nan Hutton, 71, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015.
Sallie was born on March 23, 1943, to J.D. and Sarah Ione (Keener) Gray in Ennis, Texas. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1961. She went on to attend Navarro College where she received her associates degree. On April 14, 1965, she married William J. Vavra and later married John E. Hutton on June 18, 1997.
She worked for the Ennis ISD in various Administrative positions and for Marlin Elementary School also as secretary. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and playing the piano. She loved being with her family.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Joseph Vavra and wife, Krissy; daughter, Christina Vavra Carson and husband, David; two grandsons: Justin and Jason; one great-grandson, William; three brothers: Jefferson D. Gray, Jr. and wife, Kathy, Jerry E. Gray and wife, Judy and Samuel R. Gray and wife, Helen and one sister, Linda M. Gray, and numerous nieces, nephews, and step children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and three brothers; William C. Gray, Charles T. Gray and Robert L. Gray.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. David Hutton.

William (Bill) Isaiah Rabe Jr.

William (Bill) Isaiah Rabe Jr., 90, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, in Ennis, Texas.
Bill was born in Boyce, Texas, on Oct. 23, 1924, to William I. Rabe Sr. and Ollie Mae Newberry. He lived in Peeltown, Texas, from birth to age nine. At the age of nine he moved to Ennis where he attended the Ennis Public Schools. On Aug. 23, 1943, he married Martha Lurline Merritt and they made their home in Ennis.
Bill was a U.S. Army sergeant during World War II, where he served as a Truck Driver Heavy 931. After serving in the U.S. Army he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Rabe Construction Company. He retired from Flintkote (Genstar) after 30 years.
Bill was a member of numerous civic and church related organizations. Bill was a charter member of Baylor Baptist Church, 32nd degree Mason, VFW, American Legion, Jaycees, and the Ennis Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Lurline Rabe of Ennis; one daughter, Jan Ellen Wilkinson and husband Robert D. Wilkinson; two grandchildren, Carla Rolland and husband Joel, and Lance Wilkinson and wife Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Abygail Rolland, and Trey and Hayden Wilkinson.
William is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will was held on Monday, March 23, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. Services were held Tuesday, March 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Keever’s. Memorials may be made to Texas Baptist Men at 5351 Catron, Dallas, TX 75227 or Baylor Baptist Church of Ennis, Texas.

Calvin Downing passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Saturday, March 21, 2015. He was born on March 13, 1928, to Tim and Dolly (Taylor) Downing in Benton County, Mo. Calvin married Betty Briggs on May 16, 1947, in Clinton, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Philisee Downing of Ennis and Madaline Bryant and husband Robert of Palmer; son, Tim Downing and his wife Chris of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren, Scott, Mallary, Kayla, Ashley, and Lainey; and three great-grandchildren, Tristen, Brody, Carter.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Tim and Dolly; granddaughter, Elizabeth Bryant; and two sisters, Helen and Hazel.
A memorial service will be held at Baylor Baptist in Ennis at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, with Chet Hensley and Johnny Mansell, pastors of Baylor Baptist Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.

Wilma E. Kasper, 93, passed away peacefully in Ennis, Texas, on Monday, March 23, 2015, after a long productive life.
Wilma was born in Ennis on Aug. 16, 1921, to John F. and Rosie (Zajic) Kubin. She grew up in Ennis and attended school here. On Jan. 12, 1942, she married Emil “E.W.” Kasper and they made their home in Ennis.
She worked for many years as a seamstress, retiring in 1980 as a supervisor for Donavan and Galvani. She had battled many major health issues and survived to help others with their health issues. She was an active person who loved life and independence, continuing to drive until into her 90’s. She was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, and a past member of the Altar Society. Her main joy was her family but she was an excellent cook and spent many hours enjoying working to make her yard just right.
Her memory will be carried on by all those who knew and loved her, especially her daughter, Linda Young and husband N.E. “Rod”; grandchildren: Bradley Young and Bryce Young; great-grandchildren: Rylie and Harlie; sisters: Ardrie Honza, Adail Parma and Geraldine Nekuza; sisters-in-law: Toni Kubin and Geraldine Kubin; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Rosie Kubin; her husband, E.W. Kasper; one infant daughter, Diane Kasper; brothers, John Kubin and Alvin Kubin; and sisters: Mildred Hubacek, and Vlaste Knize.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 25, from 6 until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, March 26, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with Deacon Don Griffith as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Layman’s Catholic Cemetery Trust, 806 Paris Street, Ennis, Texas 75119.
