David Ray Morgan of Wilmer, Texas, was called home to Heaven by our Lord and Savior on April 1, 2016. He was

known for his infectious laugh, sense of humor, and generous heart. He would give the shirt off of his back if he

thought someone needed it. He was perceived as a tough guy sometimes, but friends and loved ones often referred to

him as a big ‘ole teddy bear. He enjoyed being around people and living life to the fullest. He loved animals, especially

his Chihuahua and sidekick, Pork Chop. He seldom went anywhere without him.

David was born on December 15, 1952, in Littlefield, Texas, to the late James Martin Morgan and Joy Lee Morgan.

David married his best friend and soulmate, Val, on September 24, 1982. Shortly after they were married, they

moved to California where he worked in construction. There are many stories of him giving his family “wild rides”

around the coastal mountains.  In the early 2000s, David and Val moved back to Texas. He spent the majority of his

life working in construction and was also a highly-skilled mechanic. After moving back to Texas, he followed in his

father’s footsteps by buying a truck and starting his own business. He was very proud of his children and

grandchildren and was able to build a closer relationship with them when he moved back to Texas.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valerie Morgan of Wilmer, TX; one son, Jason Morgan and wife Beth of

Red Oak, Texas; one daughter, Shahmaria “Sister” and husband Terry of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Justin

Saunders of Garland, Texas, Samantha, Naythan, and Whitney Morgan of Red Oak, Texas; three step-grandchildren,

Lauren, Leah, and Laina Scivally of Red Oak, Texas; mother, Joy Morgan of Palmer, Texas; five brothers, James M.

Morgan “Junior” of Gilmer, Texas, Gary Morgan of Dialville, Texas, Wesley Morgan and wife Scarlett of Lake Elsinore,

Cali., Tim Morgan and wife Tracy of Ennis, Texas, and Jeff Morgan and wife Lori of Celina, Texas; four sisters, Nora

Hartley and husband Lynn of Palmer, Texas, Kathy Hartley and husband Dickey of Palmer, Texas, Marilyn Griffin and

husband Patrick of Waxahachie, Texas, and Lisa Rider and husband Randy of Spring Creek, Nev.; a countless number

of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Morgan, in 1980, his father, James M. Morgan, Sr., in 1986, and

his beloved son, David Wesley “D.W.” Morgan in 2006.

A memorial service was held to celebrate the life and legacy of David on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the

Palmer First Baptist Church located at 200 S. Sherman St., Palmer, TX 75152. All are welcome to attend.
