Jerry L. Porter, 88, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Sunday, January 17, 2016.
Jerry was born in Lake Worth, Texas, on November 3, 1927, to Millard C. and Annie G. (Harrison) Porter. He grew up in Denison and Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1945. On February 18, 1946, he married Mary Ann Gardiner and they made their home in Ennis.
Jerry worked for Ennis Business Forms and Ennis Automotive as a truck driver. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for sixty-four years where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed doing wood working as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann Porter. They were married 69 years and 11 months; son, Kerry Dean Porter; daughter, Lynn Roberts and husband Dick; five grandchildren: Candace Brooke Thigpin and husband Brandon, Merideth Steele and husband Brian, Joe Ross Massengill, Marissa Bargainer and husband Ryan and Kory Porter; five great-grandchildren: Grayson Thigpin, Jackson, Garrett, Henry Steele, Jaxson Bargainer; one brother, M.C. Porter along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl and Floyd Porter and one sister, Birdie Northcut Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
A Celebration of his life will take place on Friday, January 22, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Paul Porter and Rev. Mike Sellers officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
