Peggy McCluney Lewis

Peggy A. McCluney Lewis, 84, passed away in Bryan, Texas, on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

Peggy was born in Ennis, Texas, to James A. and Mildred Emma (Mullican) McCluney on March 5, 1931. She grew up in Scurry-Rosser and attended school there. On September 14, 1946, she married J.V. Lewis and they made their home in Ennis, then to Houston, Texas, for thirty years and then to Franklin, Texas, in 2005.

She was a member of the New Baden First Baptist Church. Her life revolved around her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of over sixty-nine years, J.V. Lewis; son, J.V. “Jack” Lewis, Jr. and wife, Barbara; daughters: Janice A. Southard and her late husband, Charles and Jeanette Parish and husband, Wesley; nine grandchildren: fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, JoAnn Harrison and Joyce Berryhill.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in the Myrtle Cemetery of Ennis with Rev. Freddy Burden officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
