Nancy Rider died July 27, 2015, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Mrs. Rider was born in Ennis on September 26, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. “Bill” Rider, Jr.; her parents, Raymond and Frances Wilkerson; and her sister, Betty Jo Wilkerson.
A member of Ennis High School’s Class of 1938, she graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University) and began her career as a teacher in Bardwell and in Ennis. In addition to teaching at Bardwell, Mrs. Rider coached Bardwell High School’s state champion women’s basketball team. She later served as an administrator of the Retail Merchants Association of Ennis and as Assistant to the Treasurer of the Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Church.
She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ennis and Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Laguna Park.
Mrs. Rider is survived by her daughter, Betty Rider and her spouse Dr. Kris Herfkens of Hillsborough, North Carolina; her son, Scott Rider and his wife D’Etta of Ennis; grandson, T.K Gordon, son of the late Tom Gordon, and his wife Kelly of Suwanee, GA; and granddaughters, Alexis Rider and her fiancé Lt. Primo Ramirez, Chelsea Rider, and Sarah Rider, and their mother Brenda Rider of Ennis.
A visitation will be held at J.E. Keever Mortuary on October 29, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel in Ennis on October 30, 2015, at 11 a.m.
