Gladys Hodo of Groesbeck, formerly of Ennis, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Groesbeck LTC.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis with Dr. Steve Sadler officiating.
Gladys was born in Palestine on Nov. 16, 1925, to John and Nannie Taylor. The family moved to Ennis in 1938 and she graduated from Ennis High School in 1943. On her 18th birthday, Nov, 16, 1943, she married the love of her life, Vernon Hodo.
She enjoyed reading fictional novels, sewing, counted cross stitch, and especially playing 42 dominoes. Gladys was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Ennis, where she and Vernon spent countless hours devoting time and helping the church. Vernon was a Deacon which led Gladys into teaching the Girls Auxiliary, Sunday school programs and also donating her time working in the church’s library. In her later years she continued her missionary work to sit with the elderly, allowing them a warm friend with whom to visit and have companionship.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hodo in January 1981; both parents; three brothers, Raymond, Lloyd and Vernon; and two sisters, Helen and Ima.
She is survived by a son, Ernest Hodo and wife Nona of Maypearl; and daughter, Linda Sadler and husband Don of Groesbeck; grandchildren: Thea Bartley of Maypearl, Eugene Hodo of Midland, Jeremy Hodo of Maypearl, and Andy Sadler of Bremond; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edith Shue of Ennis.
