Mattie Bell Elliott, 89 loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the IOOF Care Center surrounded by her family.
Mattie Bell was born on September 15, 1924 to Loyd and Virginia (Sands) Smith. She graduated from Ennis High School in 1942. On May 30, 1947 she married R. J. Elliott. After their marriage they lived in Alma for eight years, later moving to Ennis. She was employed by Donovan-Galvani.
Mattie Bell was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her family and always wanted to take care of others.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat Sanders of Bartlesville, OK; Donna Norton and husband, Doug of Ennis; Dan Elliott and wife, Mindy of Carrollton; one sister, Eva Hudshon of Port Orchard, Washington; eight grandchildren; Hunter Sanders, Marissa Sanders, Christi Metcalf Guthrie, Darrell Metcalf, Jeremiah Elliott, Kathy Gonzalez, Steven Elliott and Trieu Luu; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, R.J. on April 12, 2006 and three brothers: Tom F. Smith, John Q. Smith and Maurice Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
