Irene Tolston passed from this life on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in Ennis, Texas.
Irene was born in Dublin, Texas on August 4, 1923 to Oscar R. and Jesse (Mosley) Little. In 1940 the family moved to Brownwood, Texas for employment at Camp Bowie, Texas. Irene attended Tarleton State College and Howard Payne. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Howard Payne in 1953 and began a career in teaching that would span thirty-five years. During this time she earned a Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy and Special Education from SWTS in San Marcus. She was employed by Brownwood ISD, retiring in 1985. During her service at BISD she was a Classroom Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Speech Therapist and Director of Special Education services. After retiring she moved to Ennis, Texas to be near her only son, Floyd Tolston and his family. Irene had a very special relationship with each of her family members, especially her granddaughter. They spent many wonderful hours just enjoying each other’s company as “Granny” and her “Bitsy Bot.”
She is survived by her son, Floyd Tolston and his wife, Linda; granddaughter, Jessica Liska and her husband, Paul and two great-grandchildren: Logan and Reid. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William A. Little and his wife, Patsy. Irene was a member of Baylor Baptist Church of Ennis.
She enjoyed working with Helping Hands of Ennis and designed a quilt through the Golden Circle depicting the history of Ennis which is displayed at the Ennis Public Library. She enjoyed traveling, reading and loved being with her family.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. A Celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Chet Hensley officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Pecan Cemetery near Dublin, Texas under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
