Florinda Smith, age 70 of Ennis, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014. She was born in Mathes, Texas on May 12, 1943 to Guadalupe (Cardona) and Jesus Rodriguez, Jr. Florinda married Joseph Smith on September 14, 1987 in Waxahachie. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Florinda served as the Mayor of Garrett, as well as a member of the City Council of Garrett, and also served as a board member for Helping Hands. She also owned Flo’s Shirt Ventures. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Smith; children, Dora Patlan, Priscilla Patlan, and Feliciano Patlan III, all of Ennis; brother, Carlos Rodriguez of Dallas; granddaughters, Angela Martinez, Amanda Patlan, Amy Huggins, and Ashley Brown, all of Ennis; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Guadalupe Villanuava, sister, Maria Javamillo, and brother, Eduardo Rodriguez. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Rosary at 7 P.M at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Ennis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis with Father Henry Drozd as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Nepomucenes’ Children in care of Judy Patton at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.
