Anne Keever passed away early Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Ennis, Texas. Anne Elizabeth (Atkinson) Keever was born in Savannah, Georgia on January, 21, 1925 to the Honorable David Scarlett Atkinson and Catherine (Candler) Atkinson. She made her social debut in Savannah, Georgia, attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1945 with a degree in Chemistry. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Anne participated in the war effort by acting as a spotter for enemy aircraft during WWII. She met her future husband, Sam Keever, while he was stationed in Savannah as an officer in the Coast Guard. After their marriage July 25, 1945, they moved to Ennis, Texas where Sam worked with his father at the J.E. Keever Mortuary. Anne was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ennis, Board Member of Baylor Medical Center Foundation, Ennis Historical Society, Delphi Literary Club, the “Sinne’ Supper Club” and was a founding member of the Ennis Garden Club. She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader for over 25 years and was selected as a “First Lady of Ennis” by the Ennis Business and Professional Women organization. Anne was a member of the Colonial Dames of America. She is survived by daughter, Lee Werner and husband Jon of Dallas, Texas; sons: David Keever and wife Debbie of Ennis, Texas and Robby Keever and wife Dee of Ennis, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren: Catherine Clark (daughter of Lee Werner), Christine (Keever) Maier and husband Erik and Matt Keever and wife Erica and Kyle Keever (son of Robby and Dee); great-grandchildren: Natalie Keever, Will Keever, Charlie Keever, Jacob Maier and Abigail Maier; sister Leonora Atkinson Fulenwider of Savannah, Georgia. Anne was blessed with many caring nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Anne is preceded in death by her parents; husband Sam A. Keever, brother David Atkinson, who was killed in action during World War II and sister Catherine Atkinson Maner of Augusta, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the J. E. Keever Mortuary, 408 N. Dallas Street, Ennis, Texas on Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the J. E. Keever Chapel under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Keever Family Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Ennis, Sweet Briar College (www.sbc.edu) or the University of North Carolina (www.northcarolina.edu).
