Mary A. Slovacek

2041900Mary A. Slovacek, 96, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Mary was born in Alma, Texas on December 28, 1916 to Joseph and Angeline (Slovak) Galetka. She grew up in Ennis and attended schools in the area. On April 19, 1936 she married Edward John Slovacek. They lived in the Creechville community for many years before moving in 1952 to Ennis. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary was an expert seamstress and worked for Donovan-Galvani for seventeen years retiring in 1980. Her favorite things were family, cooking (kolache and strudel were a favorite), listening and singing to the old Czech tunes. Her favorite time was Sunday morning listening to Johnny I. She was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and a member of KJZT Society #16. She is survived by two sons: Raymond Slovacek of Kingwood, Texas, Ken Slovacek of Addison, Texas; one daughter, Jeanette (Jeanie) and her husband Anton (Tony) Liska of Ennis; eleven grandchildren: Gary Vrana and his wife, Barbara, Ronnie Vrana, David Vrana, Karen Sorrels and her husband, Jeff, Chris Vrana, Lisa and her husband, Eric Tarrant, Tammy Treadwell, James Slovacek and his wife, Cindy, Darren Liska and his wife, Gwen, Kyle Liska and his wife, Kelley and Anthony Ryan Liska and his wife, Carrie; thirteen great-grandchildren: Aaron and Mason Vrana, Trevor, Tatum and Tori Sorrels, Erica Gresham, Jacklyn Sirianni, Corey Treadwell, Haley Treadwell, Callie Slovacek, Joshua, Phelicity and Samantha Liska, Randa Liska and Lillie and Koltyn Liska; two great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Raymond Galetka of Ore City, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward John Slovacek who died January 19, 1993, her daughter and son-in-law, Rose and George Vrana, her great-grandson, Timothy Treadwell, brother, Milton Galetka, sisters, Emily Novy, Agnes Kriska and Alice Skrivanek. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. led by Darren Liska in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Pallbearers will be James Slovacek, Gary Vrana, Ronnie Vrana, Chris Vrana, Kyle Liska and Anthony Ryan Liska. Honorary pallbearer will be David Vrana. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. The family wishes to thank the IOOF employees for all their years of great care and compassion.
