Fred A. Ludwig, 92, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
Fred was born in Perry, Texas on December 4, 1923 to Max A. and Essie (Briggs) Ludwig. He graduated from Ennis High School in 1941. He joined the United States Army and served in Europe and Africa. On September 27, 1946 he married Betty Jo Shipley and they made their home in Ennis.
After the military he began work at Ennis State Bank as a clerk, then for the Corp of Engineers as a surveyor and then worked for the United States Post Office as a carrier for forty-one years retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ennis, Masonic Lodge 369 Chapter and Council and was a 32nd degree Mason Shriner. He was a member of the VFW and served as Past Post Commander, Troup #210 Scout Master. He enjoyed fishing hunting and travel.
He is survived by his wife of over sixty-nine years, Betty Ludwig; sons: Bill Fred Ludwig and wife, Patti, Chris Ludwig and wife, Barbara, Erik Ludwig and wife, Kelly; daughters: Melinda Ludwig and Debbie Oglesby and husband, Ron; fourteen grandchildren: twenty-eight great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law: Mary Ludwig and Jane Shipley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 2:15 p.m. in the DFW National Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary with Dr. William Moorer officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Ludwig, Joshua Ludwig, Matthew Ludwig, Luke Ludwig, Andy Ludwig, Taylor Daniell and Stephen Oglesby.
The family would like to convey their appreciation to the IOOF Nursing Home staff for the care they gave Fred during his stay with them.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made the Ennis VFW or the charity of your choice.
