Jim Edd was born in Waxahachie, Texas on June 25, 1952 to Robert E. and Bettie Joe (Hargus) Underwood. He grew up in Bardwell, Texas and graduated from Ennis High School in 1970. On April 19, 1974 he married the love of his life Gay Krajca and they made their home in Bardwell. Jim Edd served his country proudly in the United State Marine Corp as an E-4 in the Vietnam War.
He worked in law enforcement for Ellis County and the City of Ennis, as an Engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad and as a Route Technician for CenturyLink Communications. He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis, the American Legion, VFW of Ennis, Elm Branch Cemetery Board and the Bardwell City Commission. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Ranger’s baseball and spending time on the family farm.
He is survived by his wife of over forty-two years, Gay Underwood; son, Robert Underwood; daughter, Lisa Zhanel and husband, David; two granddaughters; Ava and Mary; his mother, Bettie Joe Austin; one brother, Joe Bob Underwood along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws and multiple nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Underwood, brother, Mark Underwood and step-father, J.T. Austin.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy outside Mass was held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 9 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Father John Dick officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Guthrie, Kenneth Gorman, J.B. Lowry, Jr., Adolph Reed, William Trull, Eddie Krajca, Darren Krajca and Steve Zhanel. Interment will follow in Elm Branch Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
