Helen Louise Fowler, 95, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015, in Las Colinas, Texas.
Helen was born on September 16, 1919, in Alma, Texas, the daughter of Richard M. and Alyce P. (Whitfill) Whitfill. She was reared in Alma and was a 1937 graduate of Ennis High School. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory College in Fort Worth, Texas. She also attended Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, and East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce, Texas. She taught school in Telico, Creechville, Palmer and Saint John Catholic School in Ennis.
On August 13, 1945, she was married to Percy S. Fowler of Alma at the Immaculate Conception Church in Corsicana, Texas. After their marriage they moved to the Ennis Area. She was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, a charter member of The Catholic Daughter’s of America, St. John Altar Society, the VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of The Golden Crusaders of Saint John.
She enjoyed being with her loving family and grandchildren, sewing, reading, caring for her flowers and playing ”Joker” with her wonderful friends from Saint John. After many years of teaching, she loved seeing her many students and exchanging smiles, and hugs which made her very happy.
She is survived by her sons: Van and his wife Pat Fowler, and Bruce and his spouse David Sacha; her daughter, Rosemary Ludwig; five grandchildren: Julie and Jeff Mraz, Michael and Christy Fowler, Joshua and Addie Ludwig, Matthew Ludwig, Lucas Ludwig; great-grandsons: Justin and Jacob Mraz; four nieces: Jan Glaspy, Linda Waldrop, Susan Slovak and Cindy Bouldin; four nephews: Donald Fowler, Charles Fowler, Richard Whitfill and Jimmy Whitfill; along with several great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband on May 1, 1997; an infant son, Percy S. Fowler, Jr., on November 4, 1950; and a son, Richard Fowler on January 27, 2008. Her mother and father, Richard and Alyce Whitfill, a sister, Erma Lee Carnes and two brothers, Wendell and James Whitfill.
A visitation is Monday, June 29, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial is on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
