Tino Macias (PaPa Tino) formerly of Ennis passed away on Sunday June 21, 2015 in Phoenix.

He was born in Saltillo, Mexico on July 21, 1958. He attended Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon.

Willie Dee Buchanan

Willie Dee Buchanan, 80, from Italy, passed from this life June 19, 2015, in Waxahachie. He was born in Italy, Texas, on April 27, 1935, to Mary Daisy (Davis) and Doris Dee Buchanan. He married Linda Compton December 4, 1954, in Italy. Willie was a hard worker and a devoted family man, and he loved to fish. He began working at Ennis Business Forms in 1963, and retired in 1995.

Memorial service was held on Monday, June 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Italy with Pastor Ronnie Dabney officiating.

Annie Fern Kemp Higdon, 84, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, in Ennis.

Annie was born May 27, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, to Lewis Smith and Ettie Maureen (Davis) Kemp. April 4, 1962, she was married to James Louis Higdon. In 1968, they made their home in Palmer, Texas.

Annie was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo, the slots and coupon shopping. She was a member of the J Bar C Cowboy Church of Palmer.

She will be remembered by all those who had the privilege to know her but, her memory will be cherished most by her family including her sons: James Lewis Branson and James Loyd Higdon and his wife, Denise; daughter, Marilyn Huber; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; cousin, Mildred Martin and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ettie Kemp, her husband, James Louis Higdon; two brothers, Lewis Kemp and his wife, Merly Kemp and Bobby Kemp and his wife, Marlene; one grandson, Bobby Branson and one son-in-law, Michael Huber.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Palmer.

A Celebration of her life will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Reggie Stewart officiating. Pallbearers will be Lemuel Kemp, David Kemp, Victor Kemp, Loyd Higdon, Jr., Brad Rhodes and Marcus Harris. Interment will follow in Palmer Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Doris Strunc

Doris Strunc, 69, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015, in Ennis, Texas.

Doris was born in Ennis, Texas, on December 24, 1945, to Emil J. and An­nie (Nekuza) Salik. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from St. John High School in 1964. On April 5, 1975, she married Murray Strunc and they made their home originally in Houston before moving back to Ennis in 1985.

She worked for Rauscher-Pierce for over thirteen years as a financial clerk and for Dr. Gossett for over seventeen years as a dental assistant and office clerk. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and KJZT. She en­joyed spending time outside gardening. Her greatest plea­sure was her family.

Doris will be remembered by all who had the opportunity of knowing her but her memory will be cherished most by her family including her husband of over forty years, Mur­ray Strunc; son, Ky Strunc and wife, Grace; brothers: Bobby Salik and wife, Robby, Jimmy Salik and Mike Salik; sister, Irene Jurica and husband, Robert; brother-in-law, Harry Strunc and wife, Cin­dy along with numerous other close family members. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Marvin James Salik.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. Rosary will follow visitation at 10 a.m. also in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with a Celebration of her life to begin at the end of the Rosary with Rev. Steve Holston officiating.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Doris’ name to the Southwest Transplant Foundation, Attn: Shelley Murphy, 810 N. Zang Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75208.

Wanda (Parker) Elder, age 72 passed away in Dallas on June 14, 2015.

She was born in Ennis on September 17, 1942, to Jefferson Davis and Syble Helen (Milner) Parker. She married Newburn Leo Elder on October 16, 1972, in Dallas. Wanda was a caring, giving person and member of Hopewell Assembly Of God Church for 30 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherri Webb of Arlington, Wash.; stepdaughter, Melinda Sanders of Corsicana, Texas; three sons, Bruce Lord of Bonham, Texas, Michael Lord of Waxahachie, Texas, and Clifford Lord and wife Beth of Frost, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Angela, Crystal, J.D., Deana, Christopher, Brian, Shawn, Steven, Tabetha, Kevin and Stacy; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carla Dunham and husband Mike of Terrell, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Newburn Elder; two grandchildren, Catherine and Elizabeth; two brothers, Gerald and Richard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis.

A Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis with Tim Grant and Leroy Elmore officiating. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery in Rice, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be: Jeremy Dunham, J.D. Webb, Brian Lord, Shawn Lord, Steven Lord, Andrew White, and Mark Hayden.

Vivian (Simmons) Welch, 78, passed away in Mansfield, Texas, on Friday, June 26, 2015.

Vivian was born in Ennis, Texas, on March 19, 1937, to David Brazzel and Mary Elizabeth (Brunson) Simmons. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1955. She married Donald Ray Welch on February 14, 1987, and they made their home in Houston, Texas.

She worked for numerous banks over forty years in Dallas and Houston. She was a member of the Jersey Village Church of Christ near Houston.
She will be remembered by all who knew her and her memory will be cherished by her family including nephews: Jimmy D. Johnson and wife Theresa, Larry Raburn and wife Janet, Marty Raburn and wife Lisa; nieces: Shelli French and husband Mike, Brenda Wickliffe and husband Gary, and Karen Anguiano; honorary grandchildren: Jason Raburn and Heather Raburn; and honorary great-grandchild, Kameron Raburn. She is preceded in death by her parents, D. B. and Mary Simmons; husband, Donald R. Welch; brothers: David E. Simmons and Rex D. Simmons; and sisters: Mattie L. Raburn and Bettie S. Johnson.

Visitation is Tuesday, June 30, at 1 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. in J. E. Helen Louise Fowler

Helen Louise Fowler, 95, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015, in Las Colinas, Texas.
Helen was born on September 16, 1919, in Alma, Texas, the daughter of Richard M. and Alyce P. (Whitfill) Whitfill. She was reared in Alma and was a 1937 graduate of Ennis High School. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory College in Fort Worth, Texas. She also attended Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, and East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce, Texas. She taught school in Telico, Creechville, Palmer and Saint John Catholic School in Ennis.

On August 13, 1945, she was married to Percy S. Fowler of Alma at the Immaculate Conception Church in Corsicana, Texas. After their marriage they moved to the Ennis Area. She was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, a charter member of The Catholic Daughter’s of America, St. John Altar Society, the VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of The Golden Crusaders of Saint John.

She enjoyed being with her loving family and grandchildren, sewing, reading, caring for her flowers and playing ”Joker” with her wonderful friends from Saint John. After many years of teaching, she loved seeing her many students and exchanging smiles, and hugs which made her very happy.

She is survived by her sons: Van and his wife Pat Fowler, and Bruce and his spouse David Sacha; her daughter, Rosemary Ludwig; five grandchildren: Julie and Jeff Mraz, Michael and Christy Fowler, Joshua and Addie Ludwig, Matthew Ludwig, Lucas Ludwig; great-grandsons: Justin and Jacob Mraz; four nieces: Jan Glaspy, Linda Waldrop, Susan Slovak and Cindy Bouldin; four nephews: Donald Fowler, Charles Fowler, Richard Whitfill and Jimmy Whitfill; along with several great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband on May 1, 1997; an infant son, Percy S. Fowler, Jr., on November 4, 1950; and a son, Richard Fowler on January 27, 2008. Her mother and father, Richard and Alyce Whitfill, a sister, Erma Lee Carnes and two brothers, Wendell and James Whitfill.

A visitation is Monday, June 29, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial is on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Christopher Lee Shearer, 37, passed away in Woodway, Texas, on Sunday, June 28, 2015.

Christopher was born in Dallas, Texas, on April 23, 1978, to Donald Carrol and Cathy Lynn (Skroh) Shearer. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1996.

He worked with his father as an electrician with Shearer Electric. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, shooting pool and professional boxing.

He will be remembered by all who had the opportunity to know him and his memory will be cherished most by his family including his wife, Carly Holt; son, Colt Lee Shearer, whom he loved with all his heart and he will always be watching over him; his parents, Donald and Cathy Shearer; one brother, Nathaniel Shearer; three sisters, Lana Rutledge-Enos, Miranda Hofstad and Ashley Shearer; along with a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Joann Gilmore Hart, 84, passed into the arms of Jesus with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in Ennis, Texas.
Joann was born on March 13, 1931, to Clyde C. and Josie L. (Lusk) Gilmore. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1948. She went on to attend Texas Women’s University. On November 26, 1955, she married James L. Hart and they made their home in Ennis.

Joann worked for Ennis State bank as a teller, for Lone Star Gas as a customer services representative and for Landmark Saving and Loan as a loan officer until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Ennis. She enjoyed fishing, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

Joann was a vibrant person who loved being around people and her memory will be carried on by all those who were blessed to meet her, but her memory will be cherished most by her family including her three children: Susan Hart of Denton, Stephanie McCray and husband David of Red Oak, and Jim Hart and wife Debbie of Ennis; grandchildren: Brittany Redd and husband Brett, Valerie Walker and husband John, Blaire Curry and husband Brandon, Mitchell McCray and wife Jay and Ethan Hart Lyons; great-grandchildren: Preston and Peyton Redd, Mason and Madi Kay Curry and Colton Walker; twin sister, Jean Hart; cousin, Betty Hart; along with numerous nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James L. Hart, on October 30, 2003.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 6, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Lloyd ‘Leach’ Hefner

Lloyd “Leach” Hefner, 82, passed away in Garrett, Texas, on Saturday, July 4, 2015.
Leach was born in Oak Grove, Texas, on April 20, 1933, to Hoyt Mondy and Hazel Irene (Leach) Hefner. He grew up in Ennis, Texas, and graduated from Ennis High School in 1952. In May of 1977 he married Margie Crane and they made their home in Cleburne for a short time before moving to Ennis in 1986. He served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army in the 72nd Field Artillery Group. Leach worked for Ennis Business Forms for over thirty-three years until his retirement as a Pressman. He was a member of the American Legion Post #361.

His memory will be carried on by all who knew him but it will be cherished most by his family, including his wife, Margie Hefner; son, Ricky Lynn Hefner; daughters: Cherie Anne Adams, Denise Maurine Maxwell and husband Donald, and Elita Joyce Shaw; ten grandchildren: twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hoyt Mondy Hefner, Jr. and James Jerry Hefner, granddaughter, Donna Marie Satterwhite and grandson Bradley Scott Fowler.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 6, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

A Celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
