Marcus James “Sonny” Walker

Marcus James “Sonny” Walker, 81, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Ennis, Texas.

Sonny was born in Ennis, Texas, on October 15, 1934, to Jim and Viola (Hill) Walker. He grew up in Ennis and attended school in Ennis. On October 20, 1951, he married Shirley Darlene Ford and they made their home in Ennis.

He was the owner operator of Walker’s Roofing for many years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ennis and the American Legion. He enjoyed working with cattle for many years. Sonny was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of integrity. Sonny loved helping others and worked very hard to make sure his family was well provided for. Sonny was the type of person that always put the needs of others above his own.

He is survived by his loving wife of over sixty-four years, Darlene Walker; daughters: Ann Thomason, Darla Tucker and husband, Jerry and Sandra Greer and husband, Ronnie; five grandchildren: Christi Nunn and husband, Andy, Tim Vrla and wife, Kimree, Koti Reynolds and husband, Chad, Keri Greer and fiancé Ricky Day and Kalli Greer; great-grandchildren: Cole Nunn, C.J. Reynolds, Madalynn Reynolds, Rylee Reynolds and LayLa Vrla and sisters: Lorena Madewell and husband, Douglas and Shirley Minter and husband, Wayne.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Clayton and Gracie Ford, children Joy Michelle and Martha Jean; grandchildren, Mark and Michael Vrla and son’s in-law, Charlie Vrla and James Thomason, brothers, Marvin Walker, Tommie Walker, Alan Walker, Jessie Walker, Jewel Walker and Virgil Walker along with sisters, Josie Martinez and Ruby Hill.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. in Myrtle Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Cashion officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Vrla, Ronnie Greer, Andy Nunn, Ricky Day, Chad Reynolds, Polo Hernandez, Feledo Hernandez, and Gerald Doherty. Services will be under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
