Raymond Zapletal

Raymond Zapletal, age 79, passed away in Ennis on May 26, 2015. He was born on March 1, 1936 in Ennis to Willie and Leda (Patak) Zapletal. He graduated from Saint John High School and married Patricia Muehlstein on June 7, 1958, in Abbott, Texas.

Raymond was member of Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJT # 35, SPJST #25, SOKOL of Ennis; he was Past President (also one of the founders) of the National Polka Festival, SPJST #25, and the United Way of Ennis. He retired from Leggett and Platt in 1998 after 42 years. His passions were polka music, gardening, the Texas Rangers, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia (Pat); children, Susan Zapletal Wheeler and husband Pat, Pamela Zapletal Hamilton and husband Jay, Karen Zapletal and Phillip Graham, Daniel Zapletal and wife Yvonne, Michelle Zapletal Slovak and husband David, Andrew Zapletal and Quinn Gadberry; grandchildren, Madalyn and Joshua Zapletal, Josef and Isabella Slovak, Patrick Wheeler, and Taigan Arredondo; brother, Fred Zapletal and wife Judy of Ennis; sister-in law, Betty Zapletal of Carthage, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Leda Zapletal; grandparents, Frank and Frances Zapletal, and Frank and Mary Patak; and brother Henry Zapletal.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29, at Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Father Henry Drozd as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Ennis. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Tallant, Joe Valek, Kenneth Mikula, Nick Mikula, Andy Mikula and Charlie Patak. Pallbearers will be Joshua Zapletal, Josef Slovak, Blake Zapletal, Clay Zapletal, John Zapletal, and Ted Zapletal.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Raymond Zapletal Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 515, Ennis, Texas 75120.
