Sweet Great Granny Georgia Louise Hanak went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2015, at the age of 96.
Georgia was born in the Ennis area on Feb. 3, 1919, to Louis Vinkler and Mary Slovak Vinkler. On Nov. 7, 1939, she married Frank J. Hanak, also of Ennis. Except for a few brief years when they lived in Chicago, Ill., they lived in Ennis during the growth of their family. She was a dedicated and loving wife and stay-at-home mother, who devoted her full efforts to her husband and children and to nursing her and Frank’s parents through the trials of all of their later years.
She really loved and enjoyed her time with her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In 1976, she and Frank retired into the Ozark Mountains near Dogpatch, Ark. This was a really happy time of their life, as they enjoyed an active social life with close friends in the area. Also, summers were a special time when their grandchildren came to visit for weeks and months at a time, learning about farm life, helping make jellies and jams, and spending fun hours at Dogpatch Amusement Park or in nearby Branson, Mo.
In 1993, they decided to return to Ennis to once again be closer to their family, most of whom were living within the state of Texas.
Georgia was a quiet, unassuming lady who had a big, loving and generous heart. Through her quiet dignity and very open love of the Lord, she was always a source of strength when it was needed, and she taught all her family the true meaning of being God-fearing and loving. She attended St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis during the first half of her life. Then, following her return to Ennis from Arkansas, she attended Ennis Bible Church, where the members showered her with very special love and caring. She was also a member of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (K.J.Z.T) for 75 years.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Frank J. Hanak; her parents, Louis and Mary Vinkler; her sister, Julia Vrzalik; and a brother, Louis Vinkler. She is survived by her loving children, Alfred J. Hanak and wife, Linda (Bishop) of San Antonio, Frank R. Hanak and wife Joan (Peschel) of Magnolia, Patricia Dickerson and husband, Mike of Ennis/Telico, and Mary Hanak of Ennis. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Michael Dickerson and fiance Molly Houdek, Matthew and Louise (Slovak) Dickerson, Joseph Hanak, Audrey and James Furby, Chad Hanak and wife Evelyn Baldwin, and Alicia and Craig John; along with her cherished great-grandchildren: Nikki, Kaylee and Christopher Dickerson, Brian and Haden Fruby, and Sara and Georgia Baldwin-Hanak.
A memorial service remembering her life will be held for immediate family only. Those wishing to make any donations to her memory are asked to send donations to the historic Telico Cemetery, c/o Teilco Cemetery Association, PO Box 1421, Ennis, TX 75120, noting it as a memorial to her name.
