Eugene Kahlig, 77, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Gene was born in Ballinger, Texas on September 28, 1935 to Joseph and Irene (Block) Kahlig. He grew up in Eola, Texas and graduated from Eola High School. He married LaUna Horton on April 26, 1963 and they made their home in Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. He worked for thirty years for Merchant’s Motor Lines and for ten years for Central Freightlines. He was a Master Mason; he was a member of James V. Callan Daylight Lodge # 1422 A.F.A.M. of Irving and a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He enjoyed bar-b-queing with friends and playing dominos. He is survived by his wife, LaUna Horton Kahlig; sons: Donnie Eugene Kahlig and his wife, Andrea and Harry Daniel Nix, Jr.; daughter, Kay Nettles; seven grandchildren: sixteen great-grandchildren: one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Lorene Halfmann and her husband, James. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ethel McCrohan and one brother, Roy Kahlig. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. www.jekeevermortuary.com
