Henry Donald Walker

photoHenry Donald Walker, age 81, a resident of Ennis for 54 years, died Friday, February 21, 2013 at Ennis Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Forreston, Texas on October 16, 1932, to Henry & Willie Mae (Jarratt) Walker. He graduated from Forreston High School and proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict through 1953. After his return from Germany, he entered East Texas State University and began his post secondary education. After earning his BS and MEd at ETSU, he began his teaching career in Royse City and then moved to Waxahachie ISD before becoming principal at Ennis’ Travis Elementary in 1960. He also served as principal at Carver High School, Ennis Jr. High, and Sam Houston Elementary before becoming Assistant Superintendent in charge of Personnel & Transportation, a position he held until his retirement in 1998. His avocation included all kinds of livestock, gardening, and being outdoors with with nature. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by 3 children: Wes Walker of Tyler, Angela Tenney & her husband, Danny, of North Richland Hills, and Ryan & his wife , Jennifer, of Yukon, Oklahoma. 4 grandchildren: Stuart Royse Tenney of College Station, Emmaclaire Tenney of North Richland Hills, Marie & Jack Walker of Yukon, Oklahoma, and the mother of his children, Janet Royse Wakeland of Waxahachie. Don had made arrangements for his body to be donated to UTSW Medical School for research purposes. The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ennis. A celebration of his life will take place Sunday, March 2, 2013, at 2:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Ennis.
