Santiago “Jimmy” Garcia Sr.

2100413Santiago “Jimmy” Garcia, Sr., 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his home in Ennis, Texas. He was born on September 20, 1929 to Braulio and Leonora (Martinez) Garcia in Skidmore, Texas. He was one of the oldest members of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Chicano’s Voters League in the 70’s and with LULAC and volunteered with the Golden Circle. Jimmy will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He was a chef and owner of Jimmy’s Café in 1969. He enjoyed making friends everywhere he went especially at the local dance halls. He knew no strangers. He worked for Ennis Automotive for over thirty years. He is survived by five daughters; Hilda and Peter Botello of Palmer, Adela and Ben Fira, Amanda Alvarez and Bobby Fowler, Viola and Danny Ortega all of Ennis, Jeanette Moreno and Homer McDonald of Corsicana: three sons; Jimmy and Angie Garcia, Jr., Jerry Garcia and Joel Garcia of Ennis: twenty six-grandchildren: fifty great-grandchildren and twenty-four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Hipolita “Paula” Garcia, five sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with Father John Dick as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. www.jekeevermortuary.com
