Edwin W. Svehlak, 73, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Thursday, September 22, 2016.
Edwin was born in Ennis, Texas on August 29, 1943 to Jerry and Lucy (Honza) Svehlak. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from St. John High School in 1961. He married Ginny Kovar on July 20, 1963 and they made their home in Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 stationed in Germany and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He worked for various jobs over the years beginning at age 13 including a grocery store, roofing company and retiring from Ennis Paint in 2012. He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJT, KJZT, SPJST and Sokol. Edwin loved his polka music and he and his wife were great dancers until his health did not allow this.
He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty-three years, Ginny Svehlak; brothers: Frankie Svehlak and wife, Evelyn and Alfonse “Al” Svehlak and wife, Nancy; multiple nieces and nephews and his special God daughter, Deanna Inman.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jerry Joe Svehlak.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy Outside Mass will be on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Father Fred Caldwell officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Cox, Glenn Zabojnik and Michael Svehlak, David Hornik, David Krajca and Troy Patak. Honorary pallbearers will be Deanna Inman, Mike Cox, Wayne Cox, Danny Cox, Bradley Cox and Mark Zabojnik. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association, St. Joseph Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.
