Marion “Tommie” Cope, 86, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Friday, September 2, 2016.
Tommie was born in Wilson, Arkansas on December 26, 1929. She grew up in Conway and graduated High School there. She went on to Arkansas State Teacher’s College on a Basketball Scholarship where she received her Bachelor’s in Education. On July 7, 1951 she married Carl P. Cope and they made their home in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dallas, Texas and finally to Ennis in 1962.
She taught school for over sixteen years at St. John Catholic School, Palmer ISD, Wilmer-Hutchins ISD and Rice ISD. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary where she served as Past Vice-President. She enjoyed painting with oils, gardening, tennis sewing and basketball.
She is survived by daughter, Pat Sutton, son, Chris Cope, daughter, Tana Decker and husband, John, son, Dale Cope and wife, Karen; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
A Celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Pallbearers will be Phillip Cope, Alan Decker, David Anthony, Patrick Sutton, Carl Antony and Christopher Cope. Interment followed at 2:30 p.m. in the DFW National Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
